“How many of you blog?” *a few people raise their hands, but I’m not one of them* “If you didn’t raise your hand, then start blogging. TONIGHT.”
So, as simple as it sounds, that is exactly what I am doing. You may be wondering who is giving me such advice. Well, I was sitting in a session at the American Meteorological Society’s 96th Annual Meeting, in absolute awe of the panel of esteemed broadcast meteorologists in front of me. If they told me to do something that would enhance my career opportunities, then I was in no place to ignore them.
There were five panelists at this session. Each of them has an incredible amount of experience in front of the camera, living the dream (well, it’s my dream anyway). Spanning from Miami to Boston, these broadcasters were sitting in a room in NOLA just to tell us about their lives and give us advice for our own. But the more words they said – whether they were speaking about being fluent in two languages, taking their CCM exams, or being in charge of their own business – the more frightened I became. Not that I believe I can’t handle the pressure or anything, but this was just a really loud wake-up call. So with anything else, I might as well start somewhere. So here I am, typing my first blog post.
Who knows what this blog will be about or which direction it will take me in. But I better try it out. I’m sure it will be an organized mess of my interests: veganism, college, YouTube, alternative/punk/indie music, Disney, and of course – the overall reason behind this blog – meteorology. But I hope to eventually direct it down a clear path.
I’m still extremely afraid of this career, because those who are successful have just so many impressive accomplishments under their belts. But I mean, if it doesn’t scare you, is it even worth it?
